Look at yourself. Do you see what your patients see? Are your eyes bright?  What about dark circles or “bags”? Your skin smooth? Where has the turgor gone? Is your hair graying, dyed, or gone?  What about the waistline? Can you see it? Can you see your feet? Look at your posture-shoulders hunched over the keyboard? Feet anywhere but flat on the floor? You are what you eat. So who are you?

Upon completion of this module, the participant should be able to . . .

  1. Describe how nutrition fits into the goal of age management medicine.

  2. Discuss the evidence supporting nutrition and its effects on cardiovascular disease, inflammation, obesity, and diabetes

  3. Identify non- pharmacological ways to decrease cholesterol, including supplements shown to decrease LDL

  4. Describe the hormonal impact of nutrition.

  5. Define glycation, its effects on metabolism and the blood test that measures it

  6. Define glycemic index and glycemic load and its importance in controlling inflammation and reducing obesity.

  7. Describe the Mediterranean diet and design patient instruction on its importance in losing weight and preventing disease
