Objectives

  1. Describe the diagnostic techniques for osteopenia and osteoporosis in men and women, incidence of occurrence in the US,  and associated risk factors.

  2. Describe the pathophysiology of osteoporosis.

  3. Identify therapies for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis (both sexes).

  4. Discuss pharmacological treatment caveats and side effects.

  5. Identify potential cost-benefits of treatment strategies.
